Horse Genetics
Kobertura di Prueba di Rasa di Kabai
Our horse breed DNA test covers the major breed groups used in our database. This page explains which horse breeds are included, which are not currently covered, and how breed results are reported.
How breed DNA test results are reported
Our horse breed DNA test does not provide a percentage breakdown for each breed. Instead, the report identifies the top 3 most likely breed matches found in your horse’s genetic profile based on the reference populations included in our current model.
Breed assignment should therefore be interpreted as a structured similarity-based result within the database, rather than as a full ancestry percentage report.
Major breed groups covered
Our horse breed analysis database includes representative populations from several major horse breed groups. These groups help support breed assignment across the populations currently covered by our model.
- Draft horses
- Ponies
- Oriental and Arabian breeds
- Old World Iberian breeds
- New World Iberian breeds

Rare or endangered horse breeds not currently tested
Some rare or endangered horse breeds are not currently included in our breed assignment database. Examples include the following populations:
- Australian Waler
- Cheju
- Namib
- Pindos
- Timor Pony
- Tushuri
This list is not exhaustive and may evolve as our breed reference database expands.
Some common breeds are also excluded
Some relatively common horse populations are not currently included in the breed assignment model because partial or historical crossbreeding can reduce the reliability of direct breed attribution. This helps us keep reported breed matches more consistent within the limits of the current database.
- Appaloosa
- Mustang
- Paint Horses
Important interpretation note
Horse breed testing is intended to identify the most likely breed matches within our reference database. Results should be interpreted as a structured breed assignment output and not as a full ancestry percentage profile.
Breed coverage and disease screening are different components of horse DNA analysis. A breed may be absent from this breed assignment list while other genetic insights remain available through the selected test panel.
Horse breed coverage FAQ
How are horse breed DNA results reported?
Our horse breed DNA report does not provide a percentage breakdown for each breed. Instead, it reports the top 3 most likely breed matches identified from the horse’s genetic profile within our current reference database.
Which horse breeds are included in the breed test database?
The horse breeds listed on this page are currently represented in our reference database for breed assignment. Coverage is based on the populations available in the model used for interpretation.
What if my horse’s breed is not listed?
If your horse’s breed is not listed, it may not currently be included in our reference database for breed assignment. In such cases, interpretation may be limited or reflect the closest related breed groups available in the model.
Why are some common horse breeds excluded?
Some common horse populations are excluded from the breed assignment model because historical or ongoing crossbreeding can reduce assignment reliability. This helps preserve clearer interpretation quality in the current database.
Is breed coverage the same as health or disease test coverage?
No. Breed coverage refers to breed assignment and ancestry interpretation, while disease screening depends on the specific variants included in the horse DNA panel you order.
