A DNA test is done using a buccal (cheek) swab to collect cells from the inside of your pet’s mouth for dogs and cats. For horses, the sample is collected using a hair (mane) sample. The sample is then analyzed in our laboratory using Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technology, which allows MyLabDNA to accurately study genetic markers for breed identification, genetic traits, and inherited conditions in dogs, cats, and horses.

MyLabDNA tests are highly accurate and guarantee at least 95% marker accuracy. A 100% result is not possible because genetic testing relies on statistical analysis of biological samples, and minor variations in DNA quality or natural genetic complexity can affect a small number of markers. However, these factors do not impact the overall reliability of the results for dogs, cats, and horses.

The number of diseases analyzed depends on your pet’s species. A veterinarian is not required to collect the sample. You can easily take the buccal swab yourself by following the instructions provided with the kit. However, if the sample is not collected by a veterinarian, the results may not be considered official by certain breed registries or federations.
